The New York Times has a report of negotiations going on in Zimbabwe involving the military/security chiefs who are “negotiating for themselves” (i.e. how to make a transition without exposing themselves to risk).
The item also notes:
Marwick Khumalo, head of the Pan-African Parliament observer mission, indicated in an interview on South African radio that the ruling ZANU-PF party was considering the possibility of defeat, the Associated Press reported Tuesday.
It further cautions that whatever talks are underway could break down at any point.
A more recent item from BBC says that there is an “outline of a deal” for Mugabe’s resignation, stemming from meetings chaired by the President of South Africa.
