  1. I would not consider any of those coups, though I suppose a case could be made for 1876.

    1800 was an interesting one, which could have killed off the young republic just as it was getting started.

    (Thanks, Chris, for planting (and cheerfully, no less). We’d not seen you in the virtual orchard in a while!)
